Oticon Intent hearing aid

Oticon Intent.

Danish precision engineering. The first hearing aid that reads your movement to understand what you want to hear, before you reach for the volume.

Great at
  • Four onboard sensors track your head and body movements to understand your listening intent and adjust automatically.

  • Ranked #1 in lab-verified speech intelligibility, 2.18 points above category average in noisy environments.

  • 20 hours on a full charge, with a 30-minute quick charge that buys another 8 hours if you're caught short.

Tradeoffs
  • Scored below average on occlusion. Your own voice can sound fuller or slightly boomy, particularly with dome fittings.

  • Auracast public venue streaming is supported in hardware, but real-world rollout of compatible venues is still limited.

The short version

Oticon Intent is the first hearing aid that reads your movement. Four onboard sensors track your head and body to infer what you're trying to listen to, not just what's loudest. Independently ranked #1 among 34 prescription hearing aids, it's currently the strongest option we fit for patients who struggle to follow conversation in noise.

What's new about it

Intent runs on Oticon's new Sirius platform with a second-generation Deep Neural Network trained on 12 million real-world sound scenes. Combined with the 4D sensor array (which monitors head orientation, body motion, and conversational activity), the device adapts to what you're trying to hear, not just what's loudest. Oticon's own research reports a 35% improvement in access to speech cues over the previous Real generation.

Battery life is 20 hours with a 30-minute quick-charge that recovers 8 more. Bluetooth LE Audio with Auracast and a built-in telecoil are included, and the new OtoTherm LiteTip mold material conforms to the ear canal at body temperature for noticeably better all-day comfort.

Who it's right for
  • The social oneYou spend a lot of time in restaurants, busy offices, or the car. Background noise is the problem you most want solved.
  • The active listenerYou rotate between speakers and rooms frequently and want the device to follow your attention rather than lag behind it.
  • The natural sound seekerOticon's BrainHearing philosophy preserves a full 360° sound scene, less tunnel-focused than some competing approaches.
Who it isn't right for
  • The audiophileWidex's PureSound mode is gentler. Oticon's processing is accurate but more interventionist than acoustic-first listeners prefer.
  • The own-voice sensitiveIntent scored below average on occlusion. If your voice sounding boomy has been a past complaint, this warrants a careful demo.
  • The Apple devoteeReSound handles MFi streaming and Find My Hearing Aid integration more elegantly out of the box.

How fitting works for this device

Whichever brand you ultimately pick, the fit is what determines whether you actually hear better, not the brochure. Every Oticon fitting at our office includes:

  • Comprehensive pre-fitting evaluation (~60 min)

A full diagnostic before any device is selected: audiogram, speech testing, medical and lifestyle history. We don't fit a device until we understand your hearing in full.

  • Real Ear Measurement

A small probe microphone verifies that sound actually reaching your eardrum matches your prescription target, not just the manufacturer's factory default curve. Most offices skip this step. We consider it non-negotiable.

  • Real-world demo period

You wear the device in your actual life: your kitchen, your commute, your favourite restaurant. Lab performance and real-world performance can diverge; the demo period is where you find out.

  • Follow-up fine-tuning sessions (included)

Hearing changes with context. Follow-up appointments are included in the first 90 days. We stay with you until the fit is right.
