Detailed History and Background
We gather information about family history, development, medical history, and communication milestones to provide essential context for the evaluation.

You know something isn't quite right. We're here to give you answers.
We gather information about family history, development, medical history, and communication milestones to provide essential context for the evaluation.
We assess speech, language, and related skills using age-appropriate, evidence-based tools tailored to the individual being evaluated.
We walk you through findings in plain language and provide clear recommendations, whether that's therapy, monitoring, home strategies, or referrals to other specialists.
Unaddressed speech and language difficulties can widen over time. A child who struggles with communication at three may face compounding challenges in reading, learning, and social development by school age. For adults, changes in speech or language can signal underlying conditions that benefit significantly from early identification and intervention.
A thorough evaluation by an experienced speech-language pathologist gives you the clarity and direction needed to take meaningful action, for yourself or for your child.

At Sound Hearing Audiology and Speech, Dr. Robin Zeller and Dr. Andrew Engelhardt lead a practice built on the belief that every patient deserves to be seen as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms. Dr. Zeller is dually certified in both Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, with decades of experience evaluating children and adults across school, clinical, and research settings, bringing a depth of perspective that few practitioners can match. If you have concerns about your own communication or your child's development, call us today at (516) 932-7577. The sooner you have answers, the sooner progress can begin.
If you have a specific concern (a voice change, a child who stutters, a school that flagged something), call us. We can usually tell you over the phone whether it warrants an evaluation.
Ask your questionIf your child is not meeting communication milestones for their age, is difficult to understand, or seems to struggle with language compared to peers, an evaluation is a worthwhile step. Trust your instincts. You know your child better than anyone, and getting answers early is always the right call.
Absolutely. Adults may seek evaluations following a stroke, neurological condition, voice concerns, or other changes in communication. Our speech-language pathologist has experience working with adults across a wide range of conditions and age groups.
The more information you bring, the better, including any medical records, school reports, or prior evaluations. If your child's speech concern involves something that doesn't always happen on demand, like stuttering, bringing a short audio or video recording from home or school can be especially helpful.
You will hear the speech-language pathologist's findings directly and receive clear recommendations, whether that's direct therapy, indirect support, home strategies, or referrals to other professionals such as an audiologist, ENT, occupational therapist, or psychologist.
Referrals are a sign of thorough, ethical care, not a setback. We coordinate closely with other professionals when needed, and we encourage patients and families to follow through on referrals, as underlying conditions can directly affect the outcome of therapy.
Coverage varies by plan, and our staff can help you verify your benefits before your appointment. We work to make the evaluation process as accessible as possible for every patient and family we see.
